Impact of Jos Buttler's Absence on Gujarat Titans

New Delhi, May 23: Sherfane Rutherford, a batter for the Gujarat Titans (GT), expressed that the absence of wicketkeeper Jos Buttler in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs will be a significant setback. Buttler is set to return to England for their upcoming home series against the West Indies, which begins on May 29.

Despite this challenge, Rutherford highlighted that this situation offers a chance for other players to rise to the occasion and take on more responsibility. He emphasized the importance of focusing on their own game rather than depending on others.

Buttler's unavailability for the playoffs is due to his selection for England's ODI squad, coinciding with the start of the IPL playoffs.

Rutherford stated, “Honestly, in team sports, Jos is going to be a big loss for us. However, it’s crucial for us as players to step up. This is an opportunity for us to fill that gap. While we would prefer to have him, it’s essential for us to take responsibility and perform to the best of our abilities.”

In Buttler's absence, Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis will join the GT squad for the ongoing IPL season. Buttler has been a key player for GT, scoring 533 runs in 13 matches with an impressive average of 66.63 and a strike rate exceeding 165.

Meanwhile, Sherfane Rutherford has accumulated 267 runs in 11 innings at a striking rate of over 160. Throughout his IPL career, he has scored a total of 373 runs in 21 matches, with a personal best of 46 runs.

The Gujarat Titans currently lead the IPL points table with 9 victories and 4 losses from 13 matches, totaling 18 points. Their next match is against the Chennai Super Kings, led by MS Dhoni, on Sunday, May 25, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
